Heavy investment
The most popular shore excursion in Hardanger is to Norway’s best visited natural tourist attraction, Voringfoss waterfall in Eidfjord. Yearly more than 600.000 guests experience the spectacular sight when water thunders down the steep mountain sides.
The National Tourist Routes in Norway have appointed this attraction one of the 3 “Tourist Icons” in the scenic landscapes. In this connection they are about to invest NOK 100 millions (=GBP 10,6 mio, EUR 12,2 mio and USD 16,8 mio). There has been an architect competition, and the winner is Carl-Viggo Hølmebakk. The new installations consist of making the view more accessible, a restaurant, bridge over the waterfall, several paths and a parking area. It is expected that they will be finished in 2015.
