A National Icon in Eidfjord

The National Norwegian Tourist Routes are being developed and operated by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration as a nationwide USD 110 million project. Its goal is to provide a network of such routes throughout Norway by 2015.
The project has authorized 3 national “icons”; Trollstigen, Gjendeosen and Vøringfoss waterfall in Hardanger. Here heavy investments are planned, making the waterfall more accessible and the surroundings more attractive. Vøringfossen is Norway’s most popular natural attraction with more than 600.000 visitors a year. It is also a preferred destination for cruise ships’ shore excursions when they call at Eidfjord or Ulvik by the Hardangerfjord.
For this summer another 6 modern restrooms will be built in Fossli Hotel at the top of the waterfall. Thus, a total of 11 restrooms will be available for the passengers.
Hopefully, the new constructions at this attraction will be finished by 2011.
